Rocker Adams Finds Time For Charitable Causes
Aquarter century has passed since Bryan Adams’ breakout album, “Cuts Like a Knife,” was released. The disc and its follow-up, 1984’s “Reckless,” contain straightforward pop-rock songs that propelled the Canadian singer/songwriter to stardom.
In recent years, Adams’ profile has been considerably lower since he’s no longer a radio favorite. However, his songwriting style hasn’t changed a bit. Adams, who will co-headline with George Thorogood and the Destroyers today at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, is finishing off his 11th album.

“The new stuff is like the old stuff, but new,” Adams said while calling from Vancouver, B.C. “I think I write the same kind of songs all the time, just variations on a theme.”
Adams hopes the new disc will be out by autumn. He’s presently looking for a record label.
“We’re mixing it right now,” Adams said. “I’m trying to find the right record company in America or a way to get the music to the people.”
Don’t expect to hear many new tunes when Adams performs in Holmdel. He will focus on the forthcoming project when it drops. In the interim, he’s delivering the hits. Such tracks as “Run to You,” “Heaven” and “Somebody” continue to attract fans to sheds to catch Adams, 47, who remains an energetic performer.
“I still put out as much as I can live,” Adams said. “I love going out there. I’m fortunate that the fans still come out to see us.”
Praising Keith Scott
Part of what makes Adams’ show work so well is his longtime guitarist and best friend, Keith Scott. They have been a team since 1979.
“The guy is like my brother,” Adams said. “We love the same music. He has a fantastic sense of humor and is very easy-going. Not to mention that he’s one of the finest guitarists on the planet. I can count on Keith every night.”
Last year, Adams became the first Western performer to play Karachi, Pakistan. He performed at a benefit for underprivileged children.
“It was a fantastic experience,” Adams said. “I met someone there who runs a charity for children and the idea was to go to Pakistan and raise money for it, which we did. The crowds were like the crowds we play for in India — very excited.”
Adams plans to focus on charity as much as music.
“I started my own foundation last year to help people go out and help people,” Adams said. “So far, we’ve done a few projects like help rebuilding a school that was destroyed in the tsunami in Thailand, building a recreation center for children in Sri Lanka. I’ve been so fortunate as a musician. You have to give something back.”
