An Exclusive Interview with Bryan Adams

by admin | June 3, 2007

Bryan looks forward to playing at Murrayfield.

Think of Bryan Adams and the first thing that probably springs to mind is the record-breaking single (Everything I Do) I Do It For You. But with a career spanning nearly 40 years, three Academy Award and five Golden Globe nominations for song writing, there is much more than meets the eye for the Canadian rock legend.

Bryan is famously reticent when it comes to press interviews, but here at Murrayfieldlive.com we managed to coax the star into giving us a privileged glimpse into his world and chat about the upcoming concert at Murrayfield Stadium on July 21st.

After leaving school at just 15 and earning a living playing piano in nightclubs, Bryan’s music career had fairly humble beginnings. Scoring his first record deal for just one dollar in 1978, the multi-platinum selling artist has achieved enduring success and was rightly inducted into the Music Hall of Fame at Canada’s Juno Awards in 2006.

Now, with fourteen albums under his belt and a successful song writing partnership with drummer Jim Vallance that has lasted since the early days of his career, Adams puts his enduring popularity down to keeping a low profile and an absolute dedication to his music as opposed to following the latest trend. “It’s all about the songs. It has to be, because I don’t play the press game at all. I prefer being under the radar and let the music do the talking.”

Unlike many artists of his calibre, the down to earth singer-songwriter records and tours with the same musicians he makes his records with: “The band we’ll be bringing to Murrayfield is the same unit that records and tours. Our guitarist’s family is from Scotland and we always get a great reception there,” says Adams, “So we’re bringing him home! Thi noo ye ken!”

With such a long career, we asked what fans could expect to hear from the veteran rocker at Murrayfield in July: “We always play the songs people expect, so all the hits,” says Adams. And of course there are plenty to choose from, including high-energy crowd-pleasers such as Run To You, Summer of ’69 and Eighteen Till I Die, as well as enduring ballads like (Everything I Do) I Do It For You from the worldwide number one selling album Waking Up the Neighbours, which was featured in the smash hit film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves starring Kevin Costner in 1991.

Bryan is obviously no stranger to touring and Murrayfield Stadium is the final stop on the latest European tour which took in a concert at Glasgow’s SECC back in May. “The audience in Glasgow were fantastic, so I’m excited to see how the atmosphere in Edinburgh compares.” And with such a famous outdoor venue, is Bryan looking forward to playing? “I’m very much looking forward to it, I haven’t played in Edinburgh since the Playhouse quite a few years ago now. Outdoor concerts can be great fun if it’s not too cold. Voices and cold weather can be fatal!”

So will Bryan have to work harder than usual to project his performance to the bigger crowd in the much bigger venue? “With the bigger crowds you have to project a little harder for sure,” Adams says, “But thankfully we have a great PA system, a really experienced crew and really big video screens so it will sound great and everyone will get a good view no matter where they are.”

And finally, as a football fan and Chelsea supporter scheduled to play at Scotland’s national rugby stadium, we just had to ask – is Bryan a rugby fan? “Well I went to see Ireland and Wales for the Six Nations recently,” Adams says, “Rugby is probably my favourite game so I’m looking forward to seeing Murrayfield for myself.”

Bryan Adams will be playing at Murrayfield Stadium on Saturday, July 21st 2007. Tickets are available to suit all pockets - from just £35 up to £99 for our VIP tickets, which include our hospitality package. 1. Merry Mary Says:

I am glad to see some news about our Bryan, again, but! the journalist should controll what he/she writes. Bryan is in his age of 48. I know he began his music career very young, but to put this start to his age of about 7 or 8 years??? Hmm. On the other hand he must have been a boy who had a heart full with music and beautiful emotions in his earlyí years as well. That comes out from every song he sings. Thats why we love him soooo much

  2. Skylar Anne Brigham Says:

I want to know why Bryan has never married or had children? What would he look for in a woman if he found her? What are his thoughts about a woman who is not materialistic or who values her children more than anything in the world… Would SHE be worth dating? I’m serious? I would love to know what his thoughts are on this. I’m not asking for a date? I’m just curious as to what he might think about things like this. Why has he been single for so long? What would a first date with him be like? I think being courted with guitar music and candles with moonlight on a beach would be romantic. Hmm.. what would he do on a first date? Please don’t email me something stupid. I’m not a chicky chick and i’m not young. Just a woman who is curious to know what his thoughts would be on these question………. U.S.A.

  3. Janet McNulty Says:

Thank you so much for this interview.

    I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. M Says:

Bryan is married and has found his soulmate a long ago. His wedding picture was proudly posted in bryanadamsoneline.com before. a thousand nights of fuckin’ has already undergone for the person adequately deserving him.

I hope that he will never seek for anything else aprt from its own. I hope that he would find respect for the things that really isn’t his from the very start. i hope he will be generous enough to let go of other people and the happiness they solemnly posses of their divine rights.

  5. Merry Mary Says:

    DearSkylarAnne,
I am not a young chicky chick either quite aged but young in spirit, but I love Bryan Adams for the whole thing he is. He is a great musician and a great MAN, HUMAN beeing, in the real meaning of this word. I try to follow his life -music, concerts, and all his humanitarian, nature- and animal-protection activities and from all these things I have a very clear picture of him. Though he is not married, but he had a few before. (the gossip beeing married is because of a photo beeing in circulation where he took part at the wedding of a firend with his girlfriend) I don’t really know wether nowadays Bryan has girlfriend or not, I think its not our business, on the other hand Bryan doesn’t like to bring his private life public. And I think it is right so. he is a very sensitive person, full of heart and spirit and had a few disapointment too. You know how girls can be. They enjoy beeing in spotlight due their famous friend and slowly the forget to be with both feet on the ground, they feel themselves more important, more famous than their loved one. thats why Bryan is already quite cautious in this case. So dear BAd fan-mate we can love him further on just like that, just because who he is, what he is, because he is Bryan Adams and do it without any lurking thought. :-) Kind regards, stay BADdie, Merry Mary

  6. M Says:

It’s time for him to Exit, no ’sean to stay . !

this is a very much bald hypocrisy. it’s just like a kindergarten stuff, a present from Santa underneath the christmas tree.

  7. amrita Says:

The interview was just so good and so unexpected, it made my day. But I really loved Merry Mary’s letter. Stars hardly get to live private lives and as fans we should never trespass in their private domain. More so in the case of Bryan because there is too much of nonsense about him in the internet already. Lets just love him unconditionally and wish all the very best for him ’cause he has the gift to give us undiluted joy through his music.

By the way what on earth is wrong with M? Give us a break & please stop writing such utter nonsense.

  8. Boky Says:

i think bryan is a great man.i love him so much and his songs are beautiful.i dont know anything about his personal life, and its ok.but, sometimes i think:why he never get married,or had a childern? but,we cant change it,so…
god bless him!….and all of you!by

  9. Janet McNulty Says:

Thank you so much for this interview.

    I love it.

  10. boky Says:

well,i wanna ask you something.i dont know anything about bryans personal life,so will someone tell me something, like:is he ever been narried, does he have any brothers or sisters….
    thanks

  11. COTITA Says:

Bryan eres un gran cantante, compositor, mUsico, fotografo, mino!!
    TE ADORO

  12. phio Says:

Bryan has a younger brother, his name is bruce, thats all I now, and thats okay!
