Tattoo Pipes Up With 90s Pop Hit
It is the song that you could not escape wherever you went in Britain in 1991.
Now Bryan Adams’ smash hit Everything I Do (I Do It For You), which spent a record 16 weeks at number one, is to be heard swirling round the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle at the Tattoo.
The massed ranks of hundreds of pipers and drummers will perform the popular tune at the spectacular finale to next year’s performance.
The track - which follows the music of pop stars Westlife and the film The Lion King into the Tattoo programme - will bring a modern edge to the show in the year it will also be celebrating the Queen’s diamond wedding anniversary.

It is hoped the Queen and Prince Philip may attend what would be a poignant occasion for them. Images of their 60 years of marriage will be beamed on to the Castle ramparts during the show and Tattoo organisers are also tracking down the music that was played at the Royal wedding in 1947.
The Tattoo’s new director Major General Euan Loudon is pulling together a line up which his predecessor Brigadier Mel Jameson, who is helping draw up the programme, said would be one of the most impressive yet.
Brigadier Jameson said: “We always try to have a piece of contemporary music that people will recognise every year. This Summer it was Can You Feel The Love Tonight, from the Lion King film, and next year will be no different.
“We’re still in very early days with this, but I think the actual performance will sound fantastic. Bryan Adams is a very successful artist and most people will know the song - although they will have never heard it played quite like this.
“It’s certainly going to be a challenge, but it should be a real highlight of next year’s show.”
The former Tattoo chief said he would be extending an invitation to the Canadian superstar to come and hear his most famous track performed like never before.
An impressive international line up of bands was also announced today for the 58th year of the Tattoo.
The pipes and drums of the Royal Army of Oman and the Auckland Police from New Zealand will feature, as well as the Household Cavalry’s Mounted Band of The Blues and Royals, who will enter the Esplanade astride 30 horses.
A 100-strong troupe from the Commonwealth Highland Dance group will feature too, alongside some of the Tattoo’s regular contributors.
The three-week event, which is once again being sponsored by The Royal Bank of Scotland, will include a total of 1000 international performers and will host an array of fireworks and theatrical special effects.
Chairman of RBS, Sir Tom McKillop, said: “2006 proved to be yet another fantastic year for The Edinburgh Military Tattoo. As Scotland’s most prestigious and internationally renowned event, we look forward to being part of the team making it happen for 2007.”
The Tattoo will take place from August 3-25. Booking lines for the 2007 Tattoo will open on Monday December 4 and tickets are priced between £13.00 and £43.00.
