Bryan Adams: I Haven’t Seen Mel C Since She Started At The Chippie
By Kate Mansey, Liverpool Echo
BRYAN Adams says he’s not looking forward to all the tracksuits when he comes to Liverpool. And as he returns to the Summer Pops this year, he shows no signs of curbing his cheeky sense of humour.
In his career, the 46-year-old Canadian has produced an exhausting list of albums and singles. He has written tunes for other artists and now has even turned his hand to photography. From his rock anthems such as Summer of ‘69 to his ever-popular ballads, Bryan has been the master of his own career.
It was (Everything I Do) I Do It For You that secured Bryan a place in the hearts of UK fans, earning him the record for the longest running No.1
Bryan later teamed up with Liverpool’s Melanie C to record When You’re G one.
More recently he re-recorded the track with none other than former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson to help it appeal to the US market.
It’s not only his prolific songwriting but also Bryan’s tongue-in-cheek attitude shows he’s clearly living up to his own mantra of ‘being 18 ’til he dies’. When we asked Bryan for an interview, his ‘people’ said he could only answer a few questions over email because he had such a hectic schedule. But when the replies came back his manager explained: “Clearly Bryan is being a bit cheeky.”
Here were, apparently, Bryan’s responses:
ECHO - Where are you based now ?
BA: Dingle
ECHO - What projects are you working on at the moment?
BA: Removing graffiti from the Dingle area
ECHO - What inspires you?
BA: A day trip to Kirkby
ECHO - What do you do to unwind?
BA: Take a ferry across the Mersey
ECHO - You still have records for your amazing ability to hold the no.1 spot in the UK charts. What’s that like?
BA: Well, it’s better than a night out on Mathew Street
ECHO - What have been the highs and lows of your career?
BA: No lows so far, except for that Liverpool Chelsea game…let’s not mention that.
ECHO - Are you looking forward to coming to play Liverpool? Have you been to the city much? What do you like about the place/people?
BA: I’m really looking forward to coming, the people are the friendliest up there. But I’m not looking forward to all those track suits.
ECHO - Will Melanie C be performing your duet with her at the Summer Pops gig?
BA: No, but she’s apparently she’s working down at some chippie. If you find her, let her know she’s welcome to come.
ECHO - How was it that you first came to work with Melanie?
BA: She was the only Spice available.
ECHO - Are you still in touch?
BA: No, not since she started work at the chippie.
Well, Bryan, we look forward to seeing you, and I’m sure we can show you a good time in Mathew Street.
