Canadian-born rock idol Bryan Adams, the singer, songwriter and guitar ace known for such smash hits as “Run to You,” “Summer of ´69, “Cuts Like a Knife” and “(Everything I Do) I Do for You,” will perform on Saturday night, May 13 at the Dixon May Fair.”Bryan Adams will rock the Dixon May Fair,” said fair manager Mike Green, noting that Adams is the second superstar booked for the 131st annual fair, which opens a four-day run on Thursday, May 11. Country singer Carrie Underwood, the 2005 American Idol winner, will perform on Friday night, May 12.

Green described Adams as “one of the biggest acts that Canada has ever produced.”

“He´s a 26-year veteran of the rock scene, selling more than 60 million records worldwide. He?s a 10-time Grammy winner who continues to draw sell-out crowds at concerts throughout the world. He’ll be a big part of our line-up and our theme, “The Little Fair that Could.’

Tickets for the Adams concert will be available starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 11 at both the fair office, 655 S. First St., and online at www.ticketmaster.com and all ticketmaster outlets. Ticket prices are $37 reserved, and $29 general. Both prices include fair admission.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. in the Outdoor Concert Arena.

Last year Adams celebrated 25 years in the music business with the release of his Anthology album, a collection of his hits. Last year he also recorded his latest single, “When You’re Gone,” with actress Pamela Anderson.

The rock idol will be inducted next month in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, receiving the honor April 2 at the Juno Awards to be held in Halifax. Adams also will perform at the show.

The Canadian Hall of Fame´s musical legends include Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, The Band and Hank Snow, according to the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS).

“Bryan is one of Canada’s most admired artists and one of our leading ambassadors,” said CARAS president Melanie Berry. “His distinguished collection of influential recordings have entertained and inspired many generations of music-lovers and will continue to do so.”

Adams began carving a career in the music world in February 1980 with the release of his self-titled album. His third album, “Cuts Like a Knife,” released in 1983, shot him to the top of the charts. His 1984 release, “Reckless,” earned him a Diamond Award; he became the first Canadian artist to break the million dollar sales mark.

His “Summer of ‘69″ continues to be an icon for Canadian summers.

In addition to 10 Grammies, Adams has won Juno and American Music Awards and received nominations for Oscar and Golden Globe awards. He and his music appeared in the Clint Eastwood movie, “Pink Cadillac.” He created the theme song “(Everything I Do) I Do for You” for the Kevin Costner film, ?Robin Hood; Prince of Thieves.”

Adams and two other artists, Jean-Jacques Goldman and Eliot Kennedy, penned the words to the title song for Celine Dion’s November 1997 album, “Let’s Talk About Love,” which rocketed to the top of the charts.

Also an accomplished photographer, Adams has published three photography books, with proceeds going to breast cancer research. His subjects have ranged from Queen Elizabeth II and Hillary Rodham Clinton to Eartha Kitt and Katie Couric.
