First Elton Now … Bryan

SUPERSTAR Bryan Adams is to appear at the County Ground this summer.
The Canadian rocker has been in the premier league of musicians for more than 25 years, and still holds the record for the longest length of time spent at number one in the British charts, His song Everything I Do, I Do It For You was top of the hit parade for 16 weeks in 1991.
And the man behind the much-loved anthems Summer of 69, Run To You, and 18 Til I Die has now been confirmed to play at Swindon Town on Thursday, June 8, and tickets will go on sale at 10am today.
He is following in the footsteps of Elton John, who played to a sell-out gig last June when 18,500 music fans attended his concert.
The Bryan Adams gig is being promoted by GWR FM in Swindon.
GWR FM’s programme controller Paul Kaye said: “To be able to bring an international superstar like Bryan Adams to Swindon is a fantastic coup, and once again puts the County Ground on the map as not only a football stadium but as a live music venue.
“When Swindon Town FC approached us to work with them on this project it wasn’t a hard decision to get involved.
Bryan Adams has a huge appeal with our audience and we’re sure this concert is going to be a huge success. We just can’t wait for the show.”
Swindon may not be too far from the 46-year-old’s family roots . He is rumoured to have been born in Reading, and his parents moved to Canada soon after.
He was born on November 5, and his middle name is Guy in honour of Guy Fawkes.
He dropped out of high school aged 15 to join a glam rock band, and soon made a career of it, writing for artists including Joe Cocker, Kiss, Bonnie Raitt, Rod Stewart, Neil Diamond and Carly Simon.
He has now released 14 albums since his self-titled debut and is now promoting a best of collection called Anthology.
The County Ground is gig is part of a European tour which also sees Adams play at Liverpool Docks, Althorp Park in Northamptonshire, St James Park in Newcastle, at the FIFA World Cup fanfest concert in Essen, Germany, and at the famous Montreux festival in Switzerland.
