‘Rock Never Dies, It Just Gets Louder…’

by Ana Carolina Mangelardo | January 30, 2006

Says rockstar Bryan Adams, as he chats with Deepali Dhingra about music matters and more

BT : The current style of rock is all about ‘nu’ metal. What do you think of new-age rock?

BA : It has always been around in some form. Rock never dies, it just gets louder.

BT : Your style of singing has changed over the years from a more personal one to more trendy. Are you trying to woo a younger or a newer audience by doing that?

BA : I do what feels natural to me at that moment in time, nothing is planned.

BT : In your new album Anthology, you have teamed up with fellow Canadian Pamela Anderson for ‘When you’re gone’. How Different was it from singing the same song with Melanie C? Also, how was the experience of working with her?

BA : It was only released in the States for Anthology. The version featuring Melanie C was never released in the States. Pam’s contributions are like any singer, every one has their own qualities.

BT : Your third book of photography, like the earlier ones, also revolves around women. What do you find so fascinating about them that you continue to make them your subject in each book?

BA : All of the books you are referring to were done to promote the awareness of breast cancer. I lost a friend to the disease and I did them in her memory.

BT : You have donated a lot of money to cancer foundations. Is it an issue close to your heart?

BA : I have lost a friend to this disease.

BT : You will be performing in India once again in February. Everybody who comes to this country talks about the wonderful cuisine and the beautiful women. What is it that you find fascinating about India?

BA : India is fascinating. The people are real and I like exploring. Sure I love the culture, the simplicity, the love and kindness and most of all, the politeness. I am a strict vegetarian and I appreciate a country that thinks on the same lines and my favourite food is Indian. I think I know more about Indian food than an Indian abroad.
