An insider’s report from Elton John’s party

by Ana Carolina Mangelardo | December 23, 2005

There were bad jokes, the guests danced to Bryan Adams and the hangovers will last for days. Elton John’s wedding to David Furnish was just like any other - almost. Janet Street-Porter was on the guest list

Published: 23 December 2005
There were no tantrums and no tiaras. Men in black tie - except, of course, for Jake from the Scissor Sisters, who’s so skinny and drop-dead gorgeous that he could get away with a Christian Dior silver suit designed by Hedi Slimane. The road was lined with outside-broadcast trucks, hundreds of paparazzi and curious neighbours. Inside, a long candle-lined walkway led guests to the receiving line - the happy couple in black, with minimal jewellery; I think we can use the word tasteful - in a softly lit marquee surrounded by huge displays of white roses. Waiters brought trays of pink Champagne, and trays of jumbo chips with pots of caviar to dip them into. Sir Elton John and David Furnish have conducted their relationship in the glare of publicity for the past 12 years - the most famous gay couple in the world. Now, by entering into a civil partnership on the first day it was legally possible in England, they were determined that their celebrations would redefine wedding celebrations for a new era.

Bryan in Winnipeg charity benefits from gig

by Ana Carolina Mangelardo |

WHAT do musician Bryan Adams and a gaggle of Manitoba MLAs have in common?
Well, they’re all pretty entertaining — but that’s not the link today.
The rock star, the politicians and hundreds of other ordinary people are supporters of Pennies From Heaven. They’re doing their best to raise the money needed to provide food and toys for needy Winnipeggers this Christmas.
The House of Blues, promoters of Adams’ Jan. 11 concert at MTS Centre, are donating $1 from every ticket sold to the charity. We stand to make at least $10,000. Adams makes a point of helping out in the majority of cities he plays.
We’re grateful he chose Pennies and can only hope he understands what a tremendous difference his generosity will make. The politicians? Well, legislative reporter Mia Rabson and her cohorts organize an annual afternoon of giving for the charity. Politicians of all stripes gather to pour in change, pose for a non-partisan picture and enjoy knowing they’re lending a helping hand.
The caring doesn’t stop there. On December 29, Wheelies will be donating the proceeds from their afternoon roller skate.
Schools are continuing to call in and arrive with their donations. Ron Stalk from Maples Collegiate brought in approximately 200 pounds of coins. He estimates the school raised $435.

Bryan Takes Pictures For Zoo Magazine

POSH & BIKES
Sexy Vic’s great in suspenders
By Caroline Hedley

VICTORIA Beckham gives hubby David a hint as to what she wants in her Christmas stocking - by cycling in her suspenders.

She’s asked the Real Madrid star for a bicycle to help her get fit and he’s sure to agree when he sees these sexy snaps, taken by rocker-turned-photographer Bryan Adams.

The mum-of-three, 31, showed off her perfect legs and sexy blonde crop for his German lads’ mag Zoo.

Our mole at the photo shoot said: “Bryan is a really accomplished snapper and he knows how to put his subjects at ease. He and Victoria had a real rapport and what started out as an arty shoot ended up being really quite raunchy. Vic’s pretty self-deprecating but Bryan saw she had an innate sexiness that he wanted to bring out.”

The source added: “Victoria was absolutely thrilled and asked for some prints. It’s fair to assume that David will be appreciative of Bryan’s work too.”

Bryan Adams on The Book Of British Hit Singles & Albums

by Ana Carolina Mangelardo |

Bryan Adams dropped a few places and is now no 56.
The Book Of British Hit Singles & Albums has unveiled their annual list of the Top 100 Most Successful Acts Of All Time.
No dodgy voting, no committee of ‘music industry experts, no dubious sudden last minute changes, this one is based on actually hits.

The annual Top 100 rates itself as “the most definitive and genuine list of its kind” as it’s based solely on the total number of weeks each contender has spent on the official UK Singles and Albums charts and not on arbitrary voting.
The artists are ordered according to who has spent the most weeks on the combined official UK singles and albums charts, and the list represents more than 50 years of chart music from 1952 to the present day.
Big news this year? Well, Oasis have finally overtaken Status Quo (at 25 and 26 respectively) and surprisingly Queen have moved ahead of The Beatles (with Madonnavery close behind).

Bryan sued by his own (former) employee!

by gaurav | December 10, 2005

The man who’s been tuning rock star Bryan Adams’ guitars for 17 years is now suing him for wrongful dismissal. In a lawsuit filed in B.C. Supreme Court against Adams and his touring company Rosebud Touring, Mark Stadnyk, 51, claims he was terminated without cause or reasonable notice. “Stadnyk faithfully and diligently performed his duties.” the lawsuit claimed. “And was a valuable and reliable employee of the defendants, and was Adams’ only personal concert guitar technician for 17 years.”

Stadnyk made $4,500 US per month for working two weeks a month while on tour with Adams through the U.S. earlier this year.

At the end of two weeks of touring last June, the lawsuit claims Adams terminated Stadnyk’s employment contract without cause.

Stadnyk claims the firing caused him damages, loss and expense, and he wants to be compensated.

Lawyers for Adams have not yet filed a statement of defence.

Adams Caps 25th Anniversary Touring Canada

by Cristy Carothers |

Bryan Adams felt the best way to celebrate his 25th anniversary was what any true Canadian would do, tour Canada in the dead of winter.
Besides, he said, winter doesn’t scare him. “I’ve got everything ready,” he said. “I’m packing some longjohns, some down filled stuff. I’m not going to be shovelling snow so I’ll be OK, although if we get stuck I might be. All right boys, forget the gig! We’re shovelling!”

Adams is playing both large and small towns in Canada. After that he heads to South Africa, India, and Pakistan.
“Because the songs have transcended boundaries and languages and borders, I can pretty much throw a dart on the map and play anywhere in the world now, which is fantastic because there’s a lot of places I want to go,” he said with a hearty laugh.
His tour starts in Quebec City, Colisee de Quebec December 6th, and ends January 6th in Victoria City, B.C.

Nanaimo Benefit Postponed Until Next Summer

by Ana Carolina Mangelardo |

Bryan Adams’ much talked about Nanaimo concert to raise funds towards saving Mount Benson from development has been moved to August 2006. While the exact date has yet to be determined if will be an outdoor festival style concert.
“Once we had our technical staff visit the Frank Crane Arena it became clear it was never designed to support the caliber of show that Bryan tours with,” said manager Bruce Allen. “We’ve got
4 semi-trailers of equipment and no means to do a proper load in. Logistically we could not put up a first class show with the restrictions inherent in a building that is geared for ice events.
Even though it is a fund-raiser, those that are buying tickets to see Adams perform, are entitled to a first rate show. This could not be accomplished in the Frank Crane Arena.”
The money raised by taking the show outdoors in the summer stands to be more significant, attracting not only locals but also visitors to the Island.
“Bryan’s goal was to raise money to support The Nanaimo Area Land Trust in their efforts to purchase Mount Benson”, noted Allen. “The change in venue and time of year increases the likelihood of it being a successful venture.
Details of the August concert will be announced in
due course.
