Adams Will Rock Out for Mount Benson

Coalition says rocker agrees to play show in Nanaimo Jan. 21
Bryan Adams will headline a Nanaimo benefit concert Jan. 21.
Adams reportedly agreed to appear at Frank Crane Arena to raise money for the Coalition to Save Mount Benson yesterday.
“Bryan is very enthusiastic to kick off our campaign and to raise money for the mountain,” said Gail Adrienne, a member of the coalition.
Adams is scheduled to play in Victoria the night before as part of his cross-Canada tour, which started in 2005 and will end in February 2006.
When Adrienne heard he was playing Victoria she called Adams’s dad Conrad, who lives in Nanaimo, and asked for some help.
The City of Nanaimo waived the rental fees for the arena and the rest fell into place, said Adrienne.
Ticket prices and where to purchase them will be announced within the next few weeks.
The money raised from the concert will be used to save Mount Benson from being logged by making it into a public park.

AGREEMENT NEAR?
Meantime, an agreement may be reached before the end of the year in which private property at the top of Mount Benson is sold to the Nanaimo Area Land Trust.
A source who asked not to be named told the Daily News Friday there may be an agreement.
Further information about details of the possible sale were not available.
Adrienne declined to comment Friday when asked about a possible agreement for purchase.
NALT has been negotiating with Pennclan/Reeve for about two years in an effort to buy the 523 acres.
NALT had made a prior offer of $640,000 for the land which was rejected.
Pennclan/Reeve logged part of the area more than a year ago, obliterating trails to the summit from Westwood Lake.
Earlier this year, Pennclan/Reeve warned of further logging, but NALT responded by saying further damage from logging in the area may jeopardize any interest in a purchase as it may then be compromised as a potential park. No further logging has been done by Pennclan/Reeve.
Neil Connolly, with the Regional District of Nanaimo planning department, said the district has had meetings with NALT but could not comment on a potential purchase agreement. Connolly did say, however, the RDN would be interested in assisting should a deal be finalized.
“It’s indicated on our regional parks plan as part of acquisition priority list as a possible regional park,” said Connolly.
If NALT is successful, Connolly indicated there are funds in place for the RDN to manage such a park.
He said an “expanded acquisition process” to begin next year, which includes funding from the four municipalities in the RDN, will be in place.
Even if an agreement is signed, said Connolly, it may take a number of weeks further until legal work is completed to finalize the deal.
