Bryan Adams to receive GG award

Bryan Adams is among six Canadians to win this year’s Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards.

The honour recognizes “outstanding lifetime contribution to Canada’s cultural life.”

Each winner receives $25,000 and will be honoured at a gala at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa on May 1. Governor General Michaëlle Jean will present the awards April 30 at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

Adams, who is touring internationally with his Bare Bones solo acoustic show, performed his song Bang the Drum with Nelly Furtado at the Olympic opening ceremony.

Concert ticket + Meet & Greet Auction for Haiti!

Bryan is donating prime concert tickets and exclusive Meet & Greet experiences to each of his American shows in February. The auction, in conjunction with Universal Music Group is being run through ebay and will benefit the Red Cross Haiti Relief.

Ticket packages are available for shows from February 19th through 24th in S. Dakota, N. Dakota, Iowa and Indiana. Auction ends Monday, Feb 15th.

Bryan Adams reveals story behind “Old Dogs” track

Adams submitted his song a while back hoping that it would be a part of the film, but tells us things were delayed after the tragic death of Travolta and Preston’s son, Jett, earlier this year.

Bryan Adams has a song in the new feature film, Old Dogs, starring John Travolta, Robin Williams and Kelly Preston. The Canadian singer wrote the track, “You’ve Been A Friend To Me” especially for Old Dogs — a movie that centers around two friends who find their lives turned upside down they suddenly have to take care of 7-year-old twins. Bryan Adams continued to support the Anti Whaling campaign

Bryan Adams has once again teamed up with Greenpeace – this time on their campaign for justice for the Tokyo Two.

The Tokyo Two are Japanese Greenpeace activists Junichi Sato and Toru Suzuki. In 2008 they uncovered evidence that a Japanese whaling ship, Nisshin Maru, hunting whales in the Southern Ocean sanctuary under the guise of scientific research, was being used to illegally supply the whale meat market. Canadian rock singer-songwriter Bryan Adams says the secret to a hit song is “a great melody and a simple lyric.”

Asked why he thought his 1991 super-ballad “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You,” was such a mega-hit, Adams said the song’s lyrics had “a universal simple message.”

“That’s probably the reason why it was a hit in every country in the world,” the Grammy Award-winning Adams said on CNN’s Connect The World. (more…)

Bryan Adams to perform at Wildlife-Fundraising gig

Bryan Adams will play at a fundraising concert at the Royal Albert Hall in aid of threatened wildlife.

The Born Free Foundation announced that the rock star will join the line-up of its Wild and Live concert on November 14, at the gig’s launch event on Wednesday.

Bryan, a long-time supporter of Born Free, sent a message of encouragement from Los Angeles, calling on the public to back the event.

Well, they should have seen how warm, chatty and open he was during an unplugged performance at the National Arts Centre last night. There was no sign of snobbery as Adams, in jeans, boots and a button-up shirt, settled onto a stool on stage, acoustic guitar in hand.

He broke the ice with one of his best songs, Run To You, and forged an instant connection with the crowd by deconstructing a section of the song. As he plucked the motif, everyone in the sold-out audience echoed it with handclaps. (more…)
